Our role is to provide leadership, resources and expertise - in order to support a life-long continuum of music eduation in regional communities
Regional Conservatoriums in NSW have been in existence since the late 1970s.
Over the past 30 years they have grown from modest beginnings in Bathurst to a network of Conservatoriums servicing most of NSW’s regional centres.
Devised as a tool for providing quality music education opportunities for music students outside Sydney, the consequent network of Conservatoriums now provides extensive music education services that encompass specialist instrumental/vocal training through to curriculum and classroom support in music for both government and non-government schools.
Latest News:
Max Donovan, Riverina Conservatorium of Music (RCM) student and former Wagga Wagga High School student is one of only five participants selected to graduate from the prestigious Department of Education and Training 2010 Talent Development Program.
After commencing vocal lessons with Heather Wall at the RCM in 2006, Max quickly decided that singing would be his life. He won several song-writing awards at the RCM as well as the Vocal Section Partial Scholarship in 2008 and Full Scholarship in 2009. In 2009 he attained his HSC, gaining a mark of 95 for Music after studying the course-work at the RCM with HSC specialist Joanne Burrows. He has won multiple prizes in the Wagga City Council Buskamania, won Eisteddfods with Wagga High School’s Stage Band and played gigs around Wagga with band Elect-Tree-City.
Max has now been selected as one of only five participants to graduate from over 300 students who initially applied to participate in TDP. The graduating class will perform to agents and representatives of the music industry as well as general public at the graduation ceremony at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney in July 2010.
Max is currently pursuing music, commencing The Bachelor of Arts- Music Theatre course at the University of Ballarat. He would love to thank Heather Wall, Dave Wall, Joanne Burrows, Angus Lamb, Cheryl Walker, his parents and his friends for their constant support and encouragement.

About ANSWRC
Regional Conservatoriums are self-governing incorporated not-for-profit organizations managed by community Boards. These Boards of Management are, in each of the seventeen Regional Conservatoriums, representative of the community and region in which the Regional Conservatorium operates.
The Association currently comprises 17 member organisations. Two of these organisations are designated Music Centres. Regional Conservatoriums are located across the state in locations geographically, climatically, historically and economically diverse.
In 1999, the NSW State Government reviewed the level of funding provided to Regional Conservatoriums, resulting in an increase in 2001 to global regional conservatorium funding. This funding has not been reviewed since. In 2003, the collective of Regional Conservatoriums formed the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums Incorporated (ANSWRC) as a device for developing policy and educational cohesion across regional NSW.
In 2003, the Association worked together with the NSW Department of Education and Training to establish a state wide strategic plan. This plan was devised to initiate a vision and to set structure and identifiable outcomes for music education in regional NSW.
The vision of the Association is to enrich lives and build communities through quality music education. It is the philosophy of the Association that music is a critical tool in the maintenance of social cohesion and morale. The Association aims to provide lifelong learning opportunities in music across regional NSW. According to the Association’s Strategic Plan, developed by the NSW DET in 2003, “Community-based music education and performance make a significant contribution to building human and social capital.”
To achieve its vision, the Association and NSW DET developed a number of Key Result Areas designed to better serve regional communities. They are:
Music Education Programs
Links with Schools
Profile and Marketing
Partnerships
Human Resource Management
Financial Resource Management
Physical Resource Management
Regional Conservatoriums are major contributors to regional culture. In most cases, they are the principal provider of music education and performance in their respective regions. The Association’s commitment to regional NSW begins with the pursuit of quality music education programs. Regional Conservatoriums are partially funded by NSW DET to develop these programs within NSW DET schools.
Across its network, the Association is also a major employer. Each conservatorium is committed to developing the professional capacity of its teaching staff. Conservatoriums are committed to attracting and employing skilled professionals who would otherwise not live in regional NSW.
